Continually vying with their arch-rivals Arsenal for the title of the best team in North London, Tottenham Hotspur is one of the greats of English football. Victory in the 1901 FA Cup immediately afforded Spurs a place in the history of the game. They became the first non-league club to lift the trophy since the creation of the Football League. It’s a record that has never been challenged and, given the finances at the top of the game, likely never will be.
The club has spent most of its history in the top flight. Following their promotion from the Southern League in 1909, they have never left the top two divisions. They have also participated in every Premier League season, only nearing a relegation battle on a couple of occasions.
As a consistent contender near the top of the footballing pyramid, Spurs has an impressive list of honours, including two top-flight titles, eight FA Cup wins, two UEFA Cup victories and one triumph in the now-defunct Cup Winners’ Cup.
